Our Story
Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!” -Isaiah 6:8
Our names are Jim and Carrie Taylor and we are the founders of For Haven’s Sake, Inc. God called us to create this organization through exceptional circumstances. We have two sons, Mitchell and Chais. Our oldest son, Mitchell, randomly started talking about Africa when he was about 3 years old. We never knew why he was constantly asking questions about Africa, wanting to know about the culture (although that’s not exactly how a 3-year-old asked it). As he got a little older, he began asking when we would take a family vacation to Africa. These questions of his continued for years. One Sunday when Mitchell was 10 years old we were sitting in a church service. The children’s minister announced an upcoming mission trip to KENYA, to work with Haven Children’s Home. As the minister was talking about the trip, Jim and I looked at each other and knew immediately that I would be taking Mitchell to Africa. This is probably one of the only times in my life I feel like I heard the voice of God talking to me loud and clear! That first mission trip made a lasting impression on our lives. We have travelled back to Haven Children’s Home multiple times since then. Jim and Chais made their first trip in March 2017. Our family shares a passion and abounding love for the Kenyan children. Shortly after we returned from our 2017 visit, we learned that Haven Children’s Home was on the verge of closing due to improper funding. We were determined that the home would not close its doors, sending children away from the only safe home they’d known. For Haven’s Sake, Inc. was officially founded September 14, 2017 and 53 children remain in their haven of safety, Haven Children’s Home. It is amazing how God directs each of us toward fulfilling His plans and purpose. We are truly thankful that God planted that tiny seed in a little boy’s heart that grew to become For Haven’s Sake, Inc.
